Ok, so some of your points may be true, and we realize that. We know Exeter is not the place for everyone, we know it will be very different once we get there, and yes, we know that we ourselves may not even like it in September.

We won't "push" people to apply to Exeter, but that doesn't mean we can't recommend it to people, or give advice on applying, as we've gone through the process (disclaimer: but we're not saying we know exactly what statistics you need to have to get in--we have no idea and only base it on our own experiences).

Please stop these somewhat malevolent posts/comments though--we get your point, but we are entitled to our own opinions, and we've only been trying to help...however, I'll speak for the rest of us, and I sincerely apologize for all of the comments that you all seem to find unwonted.

Thanks,
An Exonian, Class of '09

I'm not sure you do know everything you think you know about the application process--you know what it took you and a few other people you've met on the internet to get in.

When I was applying to prep schools, I had incorrect impressions of the necessary qualifications for admittance to many of the schools to which I applied. When I got to school, you can imagine my surprise at learning the qualifications of some of my classmates, some of whom were much more qualified and some of whom were much less qualified than me.

In summation (at 4.45 AM!), you can't yet list authoritatively the required credentials for the receipt of a thick envelope from Exeter, not having interacted with the somewhat larger pool of Exonians you will meet at Exeter.

katie 08 mcconnell...i got a d+ in art in 8th grade...my sch was trying to discourage ppl who weren't artistic (ie me and just about the rest of the sch, supposedly) from taking art as an o level subject. so i got a d+ one term, the next term my freind got an f. it was a partay.
oh i'm fr singapore. yeah. actually u know what i'm friending you. wanna friend?
as i've already said to tara (and then decided to say to a buncha others since this whole apology thing is seeming to affect lotsa ppl)..u guys seem to be a lot nicer than i suspected, with this apologising. i admit, what grecheski said was fabulous, i thought it was funny at parts (though he seeemd to be pretty serious), but i wouldn't have the courage to apologise, i dont think...if i had gotten myself involved in all this. just thought i'd let you know. =)

You might want to think twice before you class the recent posts asking you to calm down as "malevolent". All I saw when I read them was the aforementioned request for you to calm the fuck down, and a little bit of "Hey, you might be disillusioned later on. Maybe you should just wait and see what happens before you keep handing out advice based on your limited knowledge of the school. Give those who might have negative opinions about Exeter a chance to state them."

Also, these posts were phrased in a far less dismissive manner than many of the '09 posts and comments I've read on this community. Their authors seemed receptive to the kind of open debate that you seem to be in favor of in your eager espousal of the Harkness system. So why aren't you making an effort to address their concerns? Stop brushing them off - if their posts are "malevolent", some of your comments are far more so.

Try directing those on this community with questions about Exeter to [info]exonians, where they'll get a broader variety of feedback.

I know malevolent really isn't the correct word, but I have a problem of blanking out on words when I really need them. Any suggestions?

I can't think of any synonyms of "malevolent" that I would consider appropriate in this context.

If you were looking for general suggestions, you might try reading your posts and comments through once or twice before you submit them to check that you're not being rude for no reason.

Look, I apologized, all right? Can you please just leave it?

I hate to point out the obvious, but you asked.

Whatever. Have the last word if you want. It makes no difference to me.
